FAQ

Required Vaccinations

At 4 Paws Pet Resort, your pet's health and safety are our #1 concern. Prior to a pet's arrival, 4 Paws must have a formal vaccination record from a licensed veterinarian indicating that your pet is up-to-date on the following vaccinations:

DOGS

Rabies

Distemper/Parvo

Both H3N2 & H3N8 Strains of Canine Influenza*

Bordetella (If Bordetella is given intranasally, it must be given AT LEAST 4 days prior to your pets stay!! Oral or injectable Bordetella may be given any time.)

CATS

Rabies

FVRCP (Kittens can be boarded 2 weeks after their second FVRCP vaccination.) Any guests over 15 years old must have a letter from their veterinarian stating that your pet is in good health and able to board with us. Puppies can board 2 weeks after their 2nd round of Distemper/Parvo vaccinations. Puppies 5 months of age must have their 1st round of Canine Influenza: H3N8/H3N2. If your pet is unable to be vaccinated, we are unable to board them. No home or breeder shots will be accepted.

Vaccination records can be emailed to [email protected]

Why does my dog need the flu vaccine?

There have only been 3 confirmed cases to date in Maricopa county. As Arizona is a popular destination for visiting and travel we have lots of kids coming to and from that have been to or are from states that have had outbreaks of one or both strains of the canine influenza virus. At 4 Paws we want to be pro-active in keeping the kids in our care as safe as possible.

Like the flu vaccine for us H3N8/H3N2 vaccines will not stop your dog from contracting it. It will however help to shorten the duration and lessen the severity of it as they have already been given some antibodies to help their system combat it.

What do you mean by “Indoor/Outdoor” Runs?

Each pet, or family of pets, has its own private indoor and outdoor space. Your pet has access to the entire run throughout the day. However, at night and during inclement weather, your pet is secured inside where it is temperature controlled.

Where does my dog potty outside of regular playtime?

Most of the dogs learn very quickly to do their business on the outside portion of the run. We fully sanitize inside and outside of our facility throughout the day. Kennel staff is on site during all business hours to clean up the inevitable messes. Your dog is always able to freely access the outdoor run.

Can I bring my pet’s toys or bedding?

4 Paws provides everything needed for a stay at the Resort. Bedding, toys, and bowls are laundered and sanitized daily. If your own personal items are introduced, it becomes difficult to maintain our high level of sanitation. If you feel your pet may be anxious, you may bring in one non-returnable, personal item to make your pet feel more comfortable in its vacation bedding.

Can I bring my pet’s food?

Yes, it is recommended you bring the food your dog is accustomed to if it is different than the house brand which is Purina Pro Plan EN. This will alleviate potential stomach discomfort from a change in your pet’s diet. Food should be pre-bagged per feeding and clearly marked with your pet’s information. We can provide our food if preferred at $3.00 a day per dog.

Can I bring the vaccination records when I drop off my pet(s)?

We require the vaccination records to arrive 24 hours prior to your pet’s check-in date. This ensures that everything is current and allows time to handle any vaccinations that may be missing. You are also welcome to have your veterinarian fax these records over directly to us at (480) 830-3090.

My pet is currently taking medication. Does 4 Paws handle medications?

Medications are not a problem. We will have you fill out a medication sheet advising us on dosages and schedules for administration.

Why does my pet need a flea and tick treatment?

To ensure a pest free facility, we require all pets to have a topical flea and tick preventative prior to boarding. If you would like to provide your own treatment, we must see it applied.

Is someone there all the time?

The kennel staff is available for you to contact daily from 7:00 A.M. 6:00 P.M. After 6:00 P.M., our staff will be attending to resort needs. All guests are secured in the facility by 9:00 P.M. In addition to the kennel staff, 4 Paws has an onsite caretaker to ensure all of our pets are safe and secure throughout the night.

Do you have breed restrictions?

We accept all breeds for daycare, boarding, and grooming.

What happens in the event my pet gets sick during boarding?

If your pet becomes ill while staying at 4 Paws Pet Resort, our first point of contact is the owner. If we cannot reach the owner, we then attempt to call the emergency contact number provided. If your pet needs emergency care and we can’t communicate with either the owner or the emergency contact, we will seek veterinarian attention to ensure the appropriate care is administered.
